CREATE: Wildflower-Inspired Arrangement

A few ideas for a wildflower-inspired arrangement:

  1. To be inspired by what flowers to choose, notice of flowers you see growing in forgotten gardens, in the cracks of sidewalks, sprawling over rocks during a hike, or like weeds along highways. They are everywhere and have their own humble beauty.

  2. Since wildflowers are often all different colours, try to choose a large variety of colours, don’t worry too much about them matching.

  3. Wildflowers can often be smaller in size when grown in climates that are not lush and tropical. Try choosing a variety of smaller flowers and ones that remind you of flowers that might grow unattended in a field.

  4. Pick flowers like thistles and flowering weeds. I chose flowering dill but even dandelions are pretty when sitting next to a spray of roses.

  5. Add a larger flower that has a lot of soft organic shapes. Since all the small flowers add quite a bit of visual complexity, your eye may want to rest and have a gentle focal point that compliments but yet doesn’t overpower the arrangement. It would be considered the same as the concept of using “white space.” I used a pink hydrangea as it is both a gentle resting spot for the eyes, but made up of many smaller flowers so the shapes are complimentary.
