We cannot wait to see what we will create with the inspiring
women at
Flax Sleep

Flax Sleep is a linen bedding company started by three friends in Vancouver BC in the fall of 2017. Their business is based on the desire to provide accessible luxury home goods, as well as a shared love for beautiful things and amazing sleeps.

Anna Heyd

The “creative one”. I spent my whole life working in high end restaurants gaining an appreciation for all of “the finer things” while taking on side hobbies to keep the creative spirit from my childhood alive. When I decided I needed to have fine linen bedding from a Canadian company on a hospitality professional’s salary, I found a gap in the market and easily convinced Viv & Oana to help me fill it.

Anna’s Ritual:

My home is my sanctuary and my bathtub is at its epicenter. This tub is the reason I knew I had to move into this apartment. Taking the time to set up the perfect bathtub (essential oils, salts, number of candles, reading materials, music, snacks and beverages) depending on my needs that day is a much about creating something beautiful for me to step into, as it is about the act of relaxation once I am in there.

Oana Papuc

My professional background is as far removed from ecommerce and home goods as possible - I am a lawyer by trade. Viv and I actually met in law school, more years ago than I care to think about. I am also a mother, and a step-mother, and that aspect of my life has obviously shaped my personal identity in the last decade, as well as my approach to my work life, my values, and my priorities.

Oana’s
meaningful beauty:

I have been thinking a lot about the meaning of beauty since becoming a mother to two little girls, and more specifically how my idea of beauty will shape their views of the world and of themselves. After trying for most of my adult life to “perfect” myself (my career, my home, my body, my relationships), these three kids barrelled into my life at various points and turned everything upside down, in the most beautiful, positive, self-affirming way. These days, I find beauty in imperfections, and in the chaos of every day. My four year old daughter looked at my 5 month post-partum body the other day in the bath (we have a lot of baths in our house - sometimes as many as three people in there at a time), and she said “Mama, I love this line on your belly. It’s my favourite part.” Of course, it was the linea nigra, a dark, thick line that I get during every pregnancy along the center of my belly, which I have been wondering how to erase recently. Now I’m hoping it sticks around for as long as possible.

Vivian McCormick

Recovering lawyer turned business advisor and almost immediately after, e-commerce entrepreneur, this last few years has been an interesting journey! It has been simultaneously invigorating and terrifying, energizing and exhausting. And I’m excited to say I think it’s just the beginning.

Vivian’s inspiration

I have to steal a page from Jackie’s book (or rather a picture from her Instagram), but given our business I think you’ll forgive me. Nowadays I especially find beauty in a slightly unkempt bed - not just stemming from a deeper appreciation of rest that I used to neglect, but also because it tells a richer story of its inhabitants. It makes me think of hectic mornings when the singular goal is being on time for that first meeting. Or getting into bed unreasonably early to savour a good book or one more episode of a binge worthy show. Or relishing in a quiet weekend morning tucked in with a dog snoring nearby. It’s those little real life moments where I find inspiration and beauty.
